END-OF-TERM SELF-ASSESSMENT

My name is Irena Andruškevič, I am first year student of psychology on Mykolo Romerio University. The aim of this work is to analyze my success in learning ESP during second term.

I have written a few summaries during this term. In my opinion, my summaries were quite good, but still there is space for improvements. However, my summary writing skills has improved comparing with last term summaries.

My vocabulary tests on modules in psychology were quite successful. No doubt, they were much better, than last term. My lowest mark in previous term was 3.3 while in this it was 8.

Unfortunately, I have missed the class dictation, but I am sure that it was great innovation in process of learning language. I am looking forward to have a possibility to write dictation with all group.

My listening performance is still good enough, but not perfect. I wish I had been better in it because these skills are very important for psychologist.

I was interested in listening to peers power point presentations. I have used the opportunity to ask questions or comment their work. It was a great fun for me.

That is more, I enjoyed making power point presentation on non verbal communication. To my mind, my presentation was great. I enjoyed doing it and it was good opportunity to improve speaking in public.

To my mind, my short talks on ESP themes in class were satisfying. Themes were interesting and while looking for information I have found many useful things for me.

To sum up, I can say that my ESP has improved and I am glad that during two terms, I managed to learn so many new things and of course, I am glad that work was not oppressive.

Phobias

A phobia is strong fear or dread of a thing or event. The fear is not rational. Sometimes even thinking of the feared situation causes panic. People with phobias avoid the feared situation as much as possible, which can restrict their lives.

One of the most interesting phobias for me is SIDERODROMOPHOBIA, the irrational fear of trains. People with this phobia may express feeling of panic, feeling of terror, rapid heartbeat etc. There is no set list of treatments for siderodromophobia. Patient should always seek professional medical advice. Possible treatment can be behavior therapy or antianxiety medication.

Other specific phobia is AILUROPHOBIA. It is a persistent fear of cats. People who suffer from this phobia have fear of physical contact, such as bites and scratches, they can also be afraid of meeting cat in the dark, cat-like toys, cat shadows etc. To deal with this phobia patient should be strongly motivated. Traditional therapy is slowly becoming accustomed to cat fur, cat toy and finally a kitten.

Even the rich and famous people suffer from phobias. Famous psychologist Sigmund Freud was siderodromophobic. That is more, Napoleon Bonaparte, Julius Caesar, Mussolini and Hitler suffered from ailurophobia.

Phobia is annoying disorder that needs to be treated. The main aim of treatment is to help to reduce symptoms that people with various phobias could live more normally.

True Happiness

True happiness is such a rare psychical state that the whole of the world is trying but can not find it. Why is happiness such an infrequent thing? Maybe, it is not where all of us have been looking for it.

Somehow, different nations have different understanding of happiness. However, thus nations that may be thought of be unhappy, claim that they are happy. Australia or Africa, people there sometimes even do not have what to drink, but steel they are smiling and feeling good. So what is wrong with Lithuania people? Why in World Average Happiness In 95 Nations our position is only 83? It can be because of cold and wet climate, low salaries, nation features or… Attitude to daily things what can bring happiness, but are ignored. Lithuanian people should more pay attention to simply, everyday things like spending time with friends, playing with pets, watching interesting films, enjoying free time activities. This, sometimes forgotten things, usually bring more pleasure than money or power.

“You will never be happier than you expect. To change your happiness, change your expectation.” This famous happiness quote by Bette Davis is perfect example of what can we do to get out of this happiness crisis.
